Matthew Cooper
professional bio: Dr. Matthew Cooper is a Senior Research Scientist at FX Palo Alto Laboratory, where he works in the Media Analysis and Visualization group. He received the BS, MS, and DSc degrees in Electrical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis in 1993, 1994, and 1999 respectively. His primary research focus is developing content analysis techniques that enable multimedia management and information retrieval applications. His research interests include multimedia analysis, information retrieval, statistical inference, information theory, and computer vision. Dr. Cooper has authored or co-authored over 40 international journal and conference papers and nine U.S patents. He served on various technical program committees for conferences including ACM Conference on Multimedia, the ACM/IEEE Joint Conference on Digital Libraries, WWW, and the IEEE ICME He is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Multimedia and also a member of IEEE, ACM, and SIAM. whereabouts: I was born in Dallas where I spent my first 12 years. Well versed in the lore of the Dallas Cowboys, I moved to St. Louis at the age of 13. I stayed in St. Louis until 1998, spending a (not small) number of years working at both Duff's and Washington University. In 1998, I moved to Baltimore to finish graduate school in 1999 and work at Johns Hopkins University and a shortlived startup. I have lived in San Francisco since 2002. I am married to Saera Khan and we have two sons.
